Scoring Writing Items
Scoring the Writing Items on the ORExt Testing Application
All student writing is recorded by the database and presented to the Assessor for scoring thereafter in the ‘Manual Grading’ tab. After submission of an ELA electronic test, the writing items will still need to be scored in the 'Manual Grading' tab. The required written outcome and scoring directions are presented, along with the student’s actual writing, and the Assessor is asked to score the response as correct or incorrect. The within-school students will be identified by name so their respective Assessor knows which items to score. If throughout the electronic administration, the writing items are administered paper/pencil, these will also need to be scored in the 'Manual Grading' tab after submission of the ELA electronic test. The scoring rubric is presented with each item in the 'Manual Grading' tab. ELA assessments will not show as Submit (S) until all writing items have been scored.
